MILK IN SCHOOLS

HEADMASTER'S REPLY-

NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LACK OF COORDINATION

“ The report in the ‘ Evening Star 1 concerning milk in schools is hardly fair, and does not state accurately the attitude of head masters as a whole,” declared Mr A. M. Davidson, the principal of the Macandrew Intermediate School, in a statement to the • Star ’ to-day. “ The degree of co-operation, is best seen in a large school, where internal distribution has to be organised. In this school a careful clxeck is kept from day to day of the number of bottles of milk required, and the number being consumed-. A teacher is specially deputed to deal with the matter, and a special form has been drawn up by the school for the class teachers’ records.

“ In the ‘ Star ’ report the manager of a factory states that when children attend a- picture show, the advice to cancel the milk might not be received until after the milk has been despatched. On the Friday prior to the attendance of children at a recent picture* show which was held on .Tuesday, the factory was communicated with. It was again communicated with on Monday, and a note was also, given to the carrier. In spite of this the milk arrived on Tuesday. “ Several times recently returns have been sent in asking- the company to redhee. the number of bottles of milk. The original number still, arrives at the school,” added Mr Davidson. “ The lack of co-ordination is not due to any default on the part of the head masters, It is due to the type of form issued by the Health Department, which is sent in monthly ihstead of weekly. I have on all occasions given the milk supplier full co-operation.” 1
