THREE AUCTIONS POSTPONED
SHIPPING DIFFICULTIES (P.A.) AUCKLAND, January 6. The difficulties in obtaining adequate shipping for the despatch of , wool from New Zealand have culminated in the postponement of the next three wool auctions in the Dominion. The sales affected are the Auckland fitxure on Friday, and those at Wanganui on January , 14 and at Napier on January 20. Announcing this decision, the Auckland Woolbrokere’ Association stated that advice had been received that the third Auckland sale, set down for Friday next, had been postponed until February 12, as all brokers’ stores were now/full. The postponement meant that no further wool could be received until the position had eased. Consequently, until further, notice, no more wool Would be accepted by brokers at Auckland or Onehunga, either by rail or boat, carrier, or the growers’ own lorries. A total of 36,041 bales was listed for the forthcoming sale,-which was a record quantity for a mid-season Auckland sale, and nearly a record for any season. “The. effect of the postponements will be to give a breathing space of. a fortnight,” said Mr H. Duke, chairman of the Auckland Woolbrokers’ Association. The Christchurch sale, set down for January 27,- would be held according to the roster, and buyers would travel south to Invercargill and Dunedin before returning north. So far as Auckland Wag concerned, Mr Duke said, although brokers could not accept more wool into store for the time being, the breathing space afforded should enable them to get the stores clearer, and' once that position Was reached they would be able to handle wool more expeditiously than before.
