AFLOAT FOR SEVENTEEN HOURS
PLANE CRASH SURVIVORS RESCUED (Rec. noon.) MELBOURNE, April 14. Eight survivors of an R.A.A.F. Liberator which crashed into the sea 75 miles south of Mindanao in the Philippines were rescued by the sloop, H.M.S. Opossum, after floating for 17 hours in two rubber dinghies. The Liberator was carrying_ a crew of eight and two Australian civilian passengers. Two men were killed. The Opossum landed three survivors at Zamboanga and was diverted to Manus Island with the remaining five men.
