TURNING PROFESSIONAL
A. D. BROWN'S PLANS (P.A.) # CHRISTCHURCH, Jan. 23. A. v. Brown, the Canterbury singles champion, winner of the New Zealand Singles title in 1937, and a 'former New Zealand Davis Cup representative, has announced his intention of becoming a professional. He will go into business privately, but the Canterbury Lawn Tennis Association will consider his appointment as official coach. Brown is the second New Zealand champion to take this step, G. Ollivier, seven times National Singles champion, being his predecessor. Ollivier was the official coach in Canterbury for some years, and was instrumental iu developing many of the province's leading players. Of recent years the lack of a professional coach in Canterbury has,. since Ollivier's retirement, caused the Provincial Assocation some concern. ■ Brown, like Ollivier, has good qualifications for the work. Not only he had wide overseas playing experience,, but he has received tuition from some of the world's best coaches, including Dan Maskell (Britain) and Jim Willard (Australia)
