COAL PIT DISASTER

MINERS ENTOMBED NO HOPE OF RESCUE NEW YORK, December 27. Hope has been abandoned for 30 to 50 coal miners entombed to-day by an underground blast at Pineviile (Kentucky). Rescue workers encountered an inferno of burning debris and coal 3,100 ft from the mine entrance and halfway to the trapped men. Mr Daniel Harrington, a United States Mines Bureau official, said that the violent had probably killed all the miners.
