IMMIGRATION CEASES

LONDON, December 27. Jewish immigration to Palestine has now ceased in spite of. Mr Bevin’s promise, -says an Associated Press correspondent in Jerusalem, quoting the spokesman of the Jewish Agency. The spokesman said that immigration certificates were now held by 840 people throughout the world. Two hundred which were usually held in reserve by the Palestine Immigration Department were almost exhausted. Because no instructions had been received from the British Government, immigration had automatically stopped. This was due to the British Government’s' consulting the Arab leaders. Even Mr Bevin’s dismal promise that 1,500 could he admitted every month pending the report of the commission of inquiry had been broken. During December only 200 immigrants had arrived.
