MUNITIONS PROGRAMME
j PRODUCTION CEASES (P.A.) WELLINGTON, August 16.. " Instructions have already been issued that the production of munitions throughout the Dominion is to cease as soon as possible," stated the Minister of Supply and Munitions, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, to-night. " After the end 'of the war in Europe, reconsideration was given to bur munitions programme, , and, after consultation with the overseas authorities, heavy reductions were effected in the local output. When the war in the Pacific progressed rapidly, further adjustments were made last week-end. When peace became imminent, immediate advices were sent to the munitions manufacturers that the cessation of munitions production would follow the announcement of peace. .Production of many lines has already ceased. "We are' awaiting advices from abroad as to the future requirements of engineering stores and other commercial supplies which we have' been furnishing, and it will not he possible to determine future require'ments until the replies are received," said the Minister. " When further information on this matter is received an announcement will be made:" '
