Dobbie, S.M., when imposing a fine of £lO on Cyrus John Smith, a painter, aged 23, who pleaded guilty in the Police Court on Thursday to the unlawful conversion of a motor car, valued at £350, the property of Messrs Ross.and Glendining Ltd. "You are a returned soldier witli a good war record, and we must remember that yesterday was peace day," added Mr Dobbie. Sergeant D., J. O'Carroll, who prosecuted, said that the car had been left outside the City. Hotel at C. 40 p.m. on Wednesday by Robert Stuart Glendining,. who saw it being backed out from its parking place a few minutes later. He rushed out and 'Caught the driver. The accused had had a few drinks, but was not intoxicated.-
" It was a case of celebrating not wisely, but tqo well," said Mr C. H. Stevens, who appeared for the accused. Smith had drunk some 15 handles during Wednesday. He had had an outstanding Avar record, with five years' service. • ■: , ■ - .
