OBITUARY

M FREDERICK PEAKE Mr Frederick Peake, who died at Dunediu on Thursday last, in his eighty-ninth, year, was a well-known and popular figure " on the road," having travelled the country for Messrs Sargood, Son. and Ewen for many years. Mr Peake, though born in Essex, England, was resident in Melbourne for a period, coming, to New Zealand about 65 years ago. He was for many years a member of the Duiiedin Commercial Travellers' Club, and held executive office in the local association. He was also a vestryman of All Saints' Church for a lengthy period. • As a bowler, Mr Peake was also widely'known. He was a member of the Dunedin Club for 56 years, and was long associated with its activities, both as a player and a' legislator. From 1891 to 1916 he. was an executive member and for a number of years acted as chairman of directors while the club was a liability company. He also held positions of selector' acting secretary, and auditor, and in 1916 was elected a life member. He was club champion in 1900. He represented his club on the New Zealand Bowling Association as a councillor for a, number of years. Mr Peake, who was of an unassuming nature, was highly respected by, all those with whom he came in contact, and tho funeral on Saturday was largely attended by representatives of the organisations mentioned and by other friends of the deceased. He leaves three sons—Messrs Stanley and Roy Peake. of Dunedin. and Mr Morfcley Peake, of Auckland.
