Williams who was a prisoner of war for three and a-ha!f years in Italv and Germany, is now x safe in England. Mr A. S. Cookson left this morning for Wellington. Mr G. R. Ritchie left for AVellington by the express this morning. Mr H. Murphy, organiser for. the New Zealand Motor. Traders' Certification Board, is at present in Dunedin. A cablegram has. been received from London announcing that Dr Oliver W. Chapman has been admitted as a member of 'the Royal College of Physicians. Brigadier L. M. Inglis.. C.8.E., D. 5.0., M.C., V.D., who has ceased to he posted to the 2nd N.'Z.E.F.. has been reposted to the Territorial Force (special list), with the temporary rank of brigadier - Mr C. V. Smith has been appointed a member of the council of the University of Otago by the Governor-General, Sir Cyril Newall. The vacancy was caused by the death of Dr James Fitzgerald. Mr D. M. Scandrett has. been nominated by the Southland Bowling Centre as a councillor to represent the South Island on the New Zealand Bowling Association for the ensuing 12 months. Mr D. K. Torrance, who has been a member of the New Zealand Bowling Council for the past five years, did not seek renomination. The (Rev. Leslie B. Neale, of tho Methodist Central Mission, this month commenced the fifteenth year of his ministry in the city. In the 55 years since the mission was established by the Rev. W. Ready there havo been six superintendents, and Mr Neale's ministry is tho longest in the history of the mission. It has. been unanimously decided that he shall continue * as superintendent. Mr S. T. Goodall, an Auckland barrister and solicitor, has been appointed as a magistrate. He is expected to take up his new duties, which, it is understood, will be in Auckland, by Juno 1. Mr Goodall has been chairman of the North Auckland Land Sales Com-. mitteo since its inception, and is a partner in tho legal firm of Messrs Goodall and Kayes, Latest registrations at the Grand Hotel are Mr R.
