COLUMBA OLD GIRLS

13 DEBUTANTES PRESENTED The first debutante dance of the season was held in the Crawford Lounge last night by the Columba Old Girls' Association, and was a most successful function. Bowls of chrysanthemums and dahlias and autumn leaves made an effective decoration, with the Columba badge over the fireplace. The guests were received by the president, Mrs S. R. Crimp, wearing a deep cherry taffeta frock, assisted by Miss F. J. Ross, who wore black. Both carried bouquets, the gifts of the association. Thirteen debutantes were presented by Miss Ida G. White to Mrs Crimp t and Miss Rass. Miss White wore a black lace and georgette frock and carried a bouquet, given to her by the association. In spite of wartime difficulties, the debutantes' frocks were all most attractive with - their billowing full skirts and fitted bodies. All except one wore the conventional white, with long white gloves. Each girl carried a posy in the school colours of gold and blue. The debutantes were the Misses Betty Stewart (embossed parchment), Gwenda McCallum (crepe frock with silver sequins on the bodice), Pat McDougall (net skirt with brocaded bodice), Molly Ferens (period gown in cloque), Kathleen McLeod (georgette with sequin decoration), Lexie Laurenson (georgette featuring a. square neckline and very full skirt), Mary Wardell (crinkly chiffon, softly gathered), Vivienne Russell (crinkly georgette with self stripe), Mhari Hamilton (pale blue sprigged net with insets of Val. lace), Nancy Wales (softly gathered crepon), Joan Chartres (organdie with net insertions), Orma Blakely (georgette with shirred bodice), and Heather Stringer (georgette with buttoned bodice). Guests of honour were Ladv Sidey and Mesdames S. P. Cameron, C. Wardell, and Harold Walker. Committee members present were Mesdames L, M. Satterthwaite, J. Fergus Ross, J. A. Templeton, Misses Marie White, Barbara Cameron, and Milner Brown. .Supper was served upstairs, where the liable decorations were posy bowls of mixed autumn Mowers.
