An enjoyable programme followed, in which Marjorie Ginn, Merle Lemin, Georgina Sanson, June McCall, Pamela Page, Marjorie Holdnway, Joy Stewart, Betty McDonald, and Jim Dixon took part. At the annual meeting of the young contingent of the Victoria. League, held last night at the Otago Women's Club, the following officers were elected for the ensuing year:'—Chairwoman, Mrs Gerald Fitzgerald ; secretary, Miss Winna Johnstone; assistant secretaries, Misses Kathleen Fountain and Dorothea Campbell; treasurer, Miss Marjorie Macandrew committee— Mesdames R. Dawson, Guy Tapley, Maurice Joel, lan Thomson, and Herrick, Misses Margaret Young, Eleanor Carswell, Rosslyn Brown, Joan Ritchie, Betty Reeves, Helen Hay, and Ellice Brickell. After the business meeting supper was served in tho dining room. During the past month the four ambulances operated by the St. John Ambulance Association received 180 calls, travelling a total of 1,406 miles. The Helen F. King memorial ambulance undertook several trips to country districts, including VVaikouaiti, Karitane, Wa^rngton,. Sawyers Bay, Woodside, Wingatui. and' Brighton. Hamilton, director of the preschool centre, reported that a definite period for study was being set aside for kindergarten students, and the reading wouid be planned to correlate closely with the practical work. It was decided that a donation be made to the library at 'the centre.

Mrs C. V. Smith (vice-president) reported on a visit made to the various kindergartens by Mr C. Robertson, the chief stall' inspector of tlie Education Department, Wellington, and Mr R. R. Hunter, chief inspector of schools for Otago. Pleasure was expressed that the council had now acquired a central office and lecture room in the Pioneer Women's Memorial Buildings, in Moray Place. As a result of a jumble sale held in the Burns Hall on April -28, the sum of £3B was raised. Appreciation was expressed to members of local committees for their assistance in the sale.

Accounts amounting to £409 13s 2d were passed for paympuf. National Hospital Day. National Hospital Day will be celebrated this year as usual 'on May 12, which is the anniversary of the birthday of Florence Nightingale. There will be a special broadcast from 4YA at 7 p.m. On Saturday there will be a reunion of past and present. Dunedin Hospital nurses at the Nurses' Home. On Sunday, special services will be held in St. Joseph's Cathedral in the morning, and in Knox Church at night.
