THE RAKER BEATS SASCHA SISTER SAL WINS SPRINT The. weather was one of Otago's best summer days for the Dunediu Jockey Club's meeting at Wingatui. and there was a very large attendance. At six furlongs Roseman and Midgard were two lengths clear of Pocket Flash, who put in a bad jump, with Gold Nugget. Edward,'and Nightcalm close up next. At the fence near the far turn Gold Nugget ran to.the front, and led Midgard and Pocket Flash, with Nightcalm close up. Once in the straight Nightcalm took charge, and won very easily by five lengths from Gold Nugget, who beat Heidelberg by a length. Owing to the horses in the centre of the field bellying the tape more'than half of them started in front of the post. Contemptuous and Chestnut Glow were the first to show out, and after rounding the far turn Chestnut Glow was just shading Good Cast, with Nurnie, Lance Wing, Pay Book, and Old Glory next. Good Cast lost her place.about three.furlongs from home, and Chestnut Glow led, into the straight from Good Cast/ Old Glory, and Pay Book. Inside the distance Good Cast challenged Chestnut Glow, and then Grand Forest made a good run and beat them both by half a length. Good Cast was only half a head in front of Chestnut Glow, who ■was a head in. front of Chellow Dene, and Bonnie Night and Country Lad were next. Time, 1.14 2-5. "From a, prompt start Hearth and Invulnerable were first to show out, and then Silver Lily took charge and led Invulnerable'and .Hearth along the back. Silver Lily was first into the straight from Hearth, Invulnerable, Night Lancer, and Sister Sal, 'with Monetary last. Inside the distance Sister Sal squeezed through between Silver Lily and Invulnerable to win by a length from Monetary, who finished very fast to beat Silver Lily by a head. Invulnerable was two lengths away fourth, then Night Lancer and Hearth. Time, 1.26.

Foxhaven, The Raker, Paladeo, and The Joker led out of the straight. At the mile post Paladeo took charge, and showed the way to The Rake*r,' with Bascule and Foxhaven racing together just behind them. There was no change in this order over the first six furlongs, the six and a-half taking 1.25. Paladeo continued in ; charge from The Rakei rounding the far turn, and was still in front turning for home; two lengths clear of The Raker, with Bascule and Foxhaven together next, and Sascha moving up on the outside. At the distance The Raiker challenged Paladeo, and then Sascha put in her claim, but failed by a neek to reach The Raker. Paladeo was a length away third. Then followed Foxhaven, Amorlad, Invincible, and Bascule, with The Joker 20 lengths away last. The last half-<mile was run in 50, and the full distance in 2.14 3-5. At the far turn Sal's Pal was a head in front of Bonnie Chela, with a length to Cruden Bay. Night Fighter and Ann Mie were next. Bonnie Chela just shaded Sal's Pal into the straight, but then retired. Sal's Pal was challenged by Trueway in the run home, and just lasted long enough to beat him by Half a head.
