NURSES’ EQUIPMENT

LOSSES OVERSEAS REPLACED On the subject of the equipment of nurses for overseas service the Returned Soldiers’ Association has received the following letter from the Matron-in-Cbief (J. G. Willis) at Army Headquarters:—“The ordnance does not carry the following items:—Hats, caps, dresses, uniform, and overcoat. With the exception of caps, all items of the nurse’s uniform have to he made to order. Frocks and uniform' overalls must be made to order by good firms, as the sisters would never be satisfied with factory-mado garments turned out by the hundred. Costumes and overcoats are tailor made, and the nurses arc given a free choice of tailors, and look, and are, smartly turned out in consequence. Hats also need to be made _to order, as materials are scarce.’ All must be uniform, and tbe sisters are particular as to fit. An endeavour was made to have hoods forwarded to the Middle East to replace those lost. It is proposed that ordnance overseas, like ordnance here, should carry stocks of grey material, and ties for the sisters as these are available. also scarlet capes. “ The Registered Nurses’ Association need not bo concerned respecting the loss of eouipment suffered by the sisters in Greece, as all claims, which covered a wide ranso_ up to £6O. were settled without question by the Army Department. A special committee consisting of officers,' the matron-in-chief, and matrons and sisters of the N.Z.E.F. was set up in the Middle East, and all claims carefully considered, and the sisters all expressed their satisfaction ami were most Grateful for their generous treatment.” O
