KINDERGARTEN ASSOCIATION

MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of tlie Dunedin Free Kindergarten Council was held on Thursday afternoon. The president, Mrs K. A. Ewing, presided, and the following members were present;—Lady Sidey, Mesdamea Batham. Cowie, Cook, Dykes, Glendining, Haggitt, Harty, Hudson, M’Dougall, Melville, Smeaton, Smith, Taverner, Wright, Misses Scott, and Ulrich. The principal (Miss A, J. Duthie) reported that the practical examinations for the students wrere now completed, and that itheoretical examinations would commence next week: She e4pressed ; appreciation of Miss Henaglian’s help in giving three lectures in bookbinding alid also presenting the '.staff with tWo frames for this work. She also reported that the annual Combined Mothers’ Grbup corhpe'titidns' 1 ahd display hap beeh : a very successful one. The St. Hilda Mothers’ Chili woh the' Diitloh Memorial Bowl for the year, while KelseyYaralla Mothers’ Club retained the Farquharson Cup. The committee was deeply grateful to Misses M’Pherson arid Smith and Messrs Cornish and Tomkees for their interest and help in judging the various classes.

Fourteen Plunket nurses had visited Kel-sey-Yaralla, Kindergarten during their, refresher course, and had shown keen interest in the work of the kindergarten. Groups of the senior girls at the private secondary schools are visiting kindergartens during this month and observing the work done among the little children. Preparations are already under way for the end of the. school year, the children making their presents for mother. The attendances are good, but there is a fair amount of sickness among the children, the directors appreciating the visits of the school nurses,- who watch the children closely. •
