Fairbairn) and members of the Board of Directors were “ at home ’’ in honour of Miss A. M. Moncrieff,'M.A., Y.W.C.A. secretary in China, at present on furlough in New Zealand. There were also present the mayoress (Mrs A. 11. Allen), members of the Y.W.C.A., and representatives of other women’s societies, including a section of the women’s auxiliary of the Legion of Frontiersmen in uniform. After afternoon tea had been handed round, Mrs Fairbairn introduced Miss Moncrieff to the very large audience. Miss Moncrieff, who speaks from a 10 years’ personal contact with China, gave a, most inspiring address on that country in peace and war, giving a marvellous insight into the problems of China to-day. Slic spoke of the great cooperative work going on in modern China, of greater educational facilities, of highways being constructed, an air force being built up —all these going on i with her work of resistance to Japan. I “ China.’’ she concluded, “ is a great nation with a great people facing their problems bravely and building for a great future." Miss Frances Boss thanked Miss Moncrieff for her inspiring address. At the conclusion a collection was taken for world fellowship funds.
