FRIENDS OF THE MUSEUM
ANNUAL “ AT HOME " A large number of members of the Association of Friends of the Museum and members of the .Royal Society of New Zealand (Dunedin branch) attended an “ At Home ” in the Museum on. Thursday evening. Dr and Mrs H. D. Skinner received the guests at the entrance to the Wilh Pels 1 wing, and Dr Basil Howard, president of the lloyal Socictv, and Dr Skinner gave short introductory addresses. The latter paid a tribute to the work of Sir Percy Sargood, always, he said, a generous and understanding friend of the Otago Museum. A most interesting display of native flora, arranged by Mr Owen Fletcher, proved one of the main attractions, while upstairs a collection of pictures dealing with the first 50 years, of New Zealand’s life, proved to be worthy of much more intensive study. A film depicting the life of the 1 royal albatross at Taiaroa Head and also some views of a penguin family was shown by Mr L. E. Richdale, who has spent many hours in caring for these birds and waiting for the right moment to take the snaps. In the Maori section a case of native weapons and a food storehouse are among the latest acquisitions. After inspecting these exhibits, attractively set out in display, the visitors were entertained at supper in the Maori house, an energetic Ladies’ Committee having made excellent arrangements for this.
