RAIN CAUSES SLIP

MINOR DERAILMENT [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, November 4. Softened by heavy rain overnight, the new clay formation at the Scroggy Hill railway deviation slipped down when the ti.llU a.m. Waitakere train was passing over it, and caused the leading wheels of the engine to jump off the track. The train was being piloted over the new section by the ganger in charge of the work and was going so slowly that many of the passengers were unaware of the derailment until after the engine had stopped with little more than a slight jerk. A delay of about an hour and a-half occurred while the engine was being jacked back to the line by the equipment carried for such an emergency, and other trains due to pass over the line to and from the city suffered correspondingly.
