INDIA ARMAMENT

w 3 A RAPID ENLARGEMENT [Feb United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, October 27. “ Sentiment in America is almost 100 per cent, with the British,” said Mr F. Tymms, of Delhi, who has just spent tiiree mouths in the United States cooperating on behalf of India with the British Purchasing Commission. . Mr Tymms arrived on Saturday afternoon by the American Clipper and left for Sydney this morning hy the flying boat Awarua on his way back to India. He is Director of Civil Aviation in India, and was inquiring into possible sources of supply in the United States on behalf of Jus Government. America’s overwhelming sympathy with Britain, he said, was reflected in the helpful response he met with everywhere in his negotiations. There was a very active expansion of the aircraft industry in America, the results of which could be seen now, and would be seen increasingly in the future. Speaking of India, Mr Tymms said the Air Force was being rapidly expanded, and so was the Army and the manufacture of munitions. “ Like you,” he said, “ we have many more volunteers for the Air Force than wo can deal with. With us, as everywhere, the Air Force is the most popular service.” The Indian Air Force was wholly Indian, and one squadron, completely officered by Indians, was stationed on the North-west Frontier.
