DELAYED BENEFITS
SOCIAL SECURITY SCHEME OFTEN THE FAULT OF APPLICANTS [Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON, July 21. Instancing to a deputation to-day some of the causes which made delay in the Social Security Department unavoidable in dealing with applications and in replying to letters of inquiry, the Minister of Internal Affairs (Mr Parry), who is temporarily in charge of the department, said that very often the paucity of particulars given of cases was responsible for the complaints made. This lack of information made many inquiries necessary, and those inquiries took time. In some cases of complaints the writer’s address or signature was omitted from the letters, the Minister added, and others failed to advise the department of changes of address and thus delay and confusion resulted.
