GUARANTEED PRICES
SUPPORT FOB PRINCIPLE [Per United Press Association.] DARGAVILLE, July 21. At the annual meeting of the Ruawai Co-operative Dairy Company the question of the guaranteed price was discussed, every speaker supporting the principle embodied in the system. “ We should intimate to the Government.” said Mr G. Biggar, that it is a waste of public money to take a referendum on the question. We do not want to go back to the old system of uncertainty, though the industry requires the immediate assistance of the Government in the direction of adjusting costs without wage reductions. This would enable the dairy farmer to enjoy a higher standard of living, as was intended under the guaranteed price legislation ” Mr W. S. Wallace, a director of the company, reiterating that the farmers did not want to go back on the guaranteed price system, moved—“ That this meeting, in supporting the principle of the guaranteed price system, respectfully requests the Government to uphold the standards of values established by the -Advisory Committee for the 1938-39 season.” The motion was carried by 44 votes to 17, INVERCARGILL, July 21.
