ORPHANS' CLUB

FORTNIGHTLY MEETING A goodly number of members attended' the Dunedin Orphans’ Club’s fortnightly gathering at the Victoria Hall last evening, and enjoyed a programme of a varied and entertaining nature. The president (Bro. A. C. Hanlon, K.C.) was in the chair, and among the visitors were several members of the H.M.S. Leander’s complement. The President announced that the club would carry out a “ raid' ” on the South Canterbury Savage Club at Timaru on August 27, and' that the Invercargill Orphans’ Club would visit the Dunedin club on September 10. The annual Scotch night, which was always a feature of the season’s fixtures, would, he said, be held this year on September 27. Those who took part in. the programme last night were Bros. G. AV. MacDonald, AV. E. Snow, A. Clarke, L. Borrow. E. A. Bolwell, B. M‘Doiigall, and E. Paris (songs), and H. 0. M’Farlane (’cello solo). Bros. H. M. Eggers and E. G. H. lluffell were seen in a series of amusing snap-shot sketches, and Bro. J. B. Young related some interesting stories, based largely on his own personal experience. Selections by the Orphans’ Club Orchestra, under the baton of Bro. J. Clark, formed one of the most attractive features of the programme, and Bro. Alf. Pettitt’s work as accompanist was up to his usual high standard.
