LOCAL BODY AMALGAMATIONS

COMMITTEE TO REVIEW BILL AND HEAR EVIDENCE (Per United Press Association.) WELLINGTON. Juno 18. In an interview to-day the Minister if Internal Affairs (Hon. W E. Parry) stated that the Parliamentary Committee which hoard evidence on the Local Government (Amalgamation Schemes) Bill would be set up again during the coming session of Parliament, with the object of reviving the Bill and hearing: further evidence. The Minister said there was no hurry for the Bill, which was an important measure. He wanted the best possible legislation, in order to do a job which he believed should be done. There was a strong body of public opinion in favour of local body reform, and certain steps that had teen taken since the introduction of the Bill by some looai bodies that had expressed their opposition to the idea led him to feel that they now recognised the necessity for reform.
