MILE RENEE NIZAN

RENOWNED ORGANIST TO PLAY TO-MORROW NIGHT A Parisian artist of world-wide celebrity, Mile Renee Nissan,_ arrived in Dunedin to-day and will give a recital on the Town Hall organ to-morrow night. This young artist—she is still in the early twenties—has had a career that stamps her as the Menuhin of the organ. A pupil of the revered French organist and composer Vierne, she achieved such early virtuosity as to give her first recital in the Salle Gaveau, Paris, at the age of 14 years, when she astounded critics and the public with her prodigious technical proficiency. A year later she toured France, Belgium, and Holland, giving recitals in all the principal towns, and when 17 years of age she toured Canada and the United States, being there acclaimed as an organ virtuoso altogether exceptional, if not unique. London visits cemented her claim to world celebrity, and now, her talent fully ripened by experience into consummate artistry, she is on a world tour. The recitals already given in this country by this accomplished young lady have indicated that New Zealanders are not slow to appreciate such outstanding ability as Mile Nizan undoubtedly has, and it is anticipated that to-morrow Dunedin will maintain its reputation as the educational centre of the Dominion by the measure of patronage it gives to this recital.

It is noted that the programme is made up of pieces composed specially for the organ, and does not include any of the fine transcriptions of grand opera. Such works, although very effective, are not real organ music, having been- originally scored for orchestra and voices. Mile Nizan. as a Parisian, has naturally elected to play a majority of items of' French organ music, but one notable exception is the Bach choral ‘ Now Rejoice All Ye Christians.’ Another outstanding item which should bring out the best of our magnificent organ is the invocation 1 Electa ut Sol ’ (Dallier), with which the performance will commence. The other items which will be presented are 1 Soetir Monique 1 (Couperin). ‘ Noel ’ (D’Aquin), ‘ Al-legro-Sixth Symphony ' (Wider), ‘ Prelude, Fugue, and Variations * (Franck), ‘Scherzo*—dedicated to Renee Nizan—(de St. Martin), : Hymne au Soleil ’ (Vierne), f Stella Matutina ' (Dallier), and 4 Toccata—from Sympbottie V ’ (Wider). The box plan is at Begg and Co.’s warehouse.
