TRAGIC CYCLE RACE

COMPETITOR KILLED [Per United Press Association.] AUCKLAND, May 8. Fatal injuries were suffered by a cyclist, Norman Ross Sweetman, aged 15, a son of Mr C. Sweetman, of Epsom, as the result of an acci-' dent which occurred on the Great North road while he was competing in a road race on Saturday afternoon. He was riding past the Waikumete Cemetery when his machine collided with a motor car driven jay Miss A. Wilson, of Mount Albert Suffering from a broken wrist and chest and head injuries, he was taken to the Auckland Hospital, where he died shortly after admission. _ . A member of the Manukau Cycling Club, he was one of 40 riders taking part in an open 13-mile road race between Avondale and Henderson, organised by the Auckland Centre of the New Zealand Amateur Cycling Association. This event was the second race in which he had competed. On the previous Saturday he took part in a club event, which he won easily.
