On the charge of escaping from cus*. tody M'Kay was sentenced to a further term of tnree months’ imprisonment, with hard labour. His Honour added that the prisoner! had already been declared an habitual criminal, and he did not propose repeat* ing that declaration. OTHER CHARGES. M'Kay later appeared in the Policd Court and admitted three charges ofl obtaining goods and money by uttering valueless cheques. i The charges were that on January! 15, at Wellington, with intent to do 4 fraud, he obtained £4 from Harold Nicholas Vivian by falsely representing that a cheque drawn on the National Bank of New Zealand at Dargaville for) £ll 10s, and signed H. W. M 7 Kay, waa a good and valid order; that on Jannard 24, at Dunedin, with intent to defraud* he obtained from John Renton Dunlod £lO by the same means; that on Jamw ary 22, at Dunedin, he obtained! goodi valued at £1 10s from John Rented Dunlop by the same means. Chief-detective Young stated thad M'Kay had been sentenced in the* Supreme Court. With the proceeds o| the first cheque cashed he ordered a suit in Wellington. With the other tw«j cheques he had received £lO with and goods and money with the other* Mr Young said that the clock whicHthe accused had stolen when he broke into the house at Mosgiel had heed - recovered, and asked that an order b« made returning it to the owner. Mr H- W. Bundle, S.M., granted th«( order, and 1 convicted and M'Kay on each of the three charges.
