NOVELTY STOCKINGS.
• It is rarely that one gets novelties in silk stockings, but a fashion note from overseas states that the clocks, which were once so popular, but now find no favour, have been succeeded by something new in the ornament line—embroidered seams. Thus the decoration is all at'the back. Sometimes it only extends a few inches up from the instep, sometimes it runs right up the calf. It is carried out usually in deep shades, such as blue, red, or nigger, contrasting vividly with the neutral stocking tints. A fine herringbone, or feather-stitching is favoured as a motif, executed in little coloured dots which stand out from the sheer silk.
