UPROAR AT PARIS CIRCUS

Spectators at the Cirque d’Hiver, Pans, were treated to an unrehearsed and premature, but highly effective, finale in the shape of a battle royal between two elephants, says ‘ The Times.’ The two animals were in the ring, going through their usual performance, when suddenly for some unknown possibly the remembrance of an ancient grudge, they stopped work and set about each other with butting heads and flailing trunks. The whole place was immediately in an uproar, the screams of the panic- , stricken spectators mingling with the 1 trumpeting of the elephants and the snouts of the attendants. The efforts of ’the_ keepers to stop the fight met with littk success; they managed to drive the infuriated beasts out of the ring, but the contestants merely repaired to the corridor outside and continued the battle. Thence, fighting all the way, they reached the bar, which they wrecked, and it was long . after the_ last of the audience had left the building that they abandoned their duel.
