Seven hundred thousand Republicans and insurgents will be looked in a struggle to the death in General Franco’s great offensive, which is expected to begin at any moment. General Franco will personally direct his forces. There is considerable activity along the whole line from the Pyrenees to Toledo. The Republicans are carrying out raids with bombers and mechanised units. PHYSICAL CULTURE AND SPORT GOVERNMENT ANNOUNCEMENT. BARCELONA, November 12. While the troops at the front are digging trenches and fortifying positions in an effort to survive the dark days which are looming ahead, the Government announces the appointment of a council to promote physical culture and sport through the Republic. EXCHANGE OF AGENTS FRANCO’S ADVISERS DELIGHTED. SALAMANCA, November 12. (Received November 13, at 11 a.m.) A Franco Government communique states that the agent of Nationalist Spain in London will have direct access to the Foreign Office, and the British agent in. Salamanca will enjoy similar facilities. Under-agents will act as Consuls for the protection of commercial interests. The Nationalist Gevernment considers the arrangement as temporary, leading to normal relations between Spain and Britain. General Franco’s diplomatic advisers are delighted at the exchange of Notes and declare it is much more than recognition of belligerency, as it implies recognition of sovereignty.
BASQUE CHILDREN LEAVING ENGLAND MANY ORY BITTERLY. LONDON, November 12. (Received November 13, at 11 a.m.) The first party of Basque children has left England. Many of the children were crying bitterly. Mrs Leah Manning, a member of, the National Joint Committee, stated that some of the boys threatened to throw themselves into the sea rather than return. The children are afraid of General Franco’s supporters, and are uncertain whether the parents of many of them are still alive. NDN-INTERVENTION SUB-COMMITTEE TO MEET ON TUESDAY. (British Official Wireless.) RUGBY, November 12. (Received November 13, at 11 a.m.) A meeting of the non-intervention sub-committee has been called for Tuesday to receive the reports of the technical experts who have been working on various questions in connection with the proposals adopted by the Non-in-tervention Committee at its last meeting.
