PRIZE DOGS

FANCIERS' CLUB SHOW WIDE INTEREST IN AWARDS The judging o.f the dog sections at the annual show of the Dunedin Fanciers’ Club was completed last evening, and wide interest was shown in the adjudicators’ selections. One of the best sections was the black cocker spaniels, in which all the placed dogs were, in the estimation of the judge (Mr J. Robson), capable of meeting competition anywhere in New Zealand. Commenting "on the to}' section Mr Robson said that there was a general impovement in the quality, although in some cases the Pomeranians were not in the best coat. This fact was responsible for some animals of good type losing places. In the Pekinese section Mrs M. H. Mac Gibbon s Nanpin Santa Fe was the champion. The Irish setters were an interesting class, headed by a really outstanding animal in Mr S. G. Cooke’s The Rajah. There were only two Borzois forward, but each was a good representative of the breed. The Labradors were a strong class, most of the exhibits having good heads, but the chief weakness was the length of the back, which was in several cases too great. Competition was good in most of the terrier 'sections, although the quality was only average. One exception to this was the West Highland Whites, which were very good. In the Scottish terriers competition was not so general as was expected in this popular breed. The judge (Mr A. G. Betts') remarked that breeders of smooth-haired fox terriers should avoid breeding too light an animal: Several entries were rather fine to be truly typical of thisvirile breed o AIREDALES. DOGS.
