FAREWELL TO REV. F. V. FISHER

A happy time was spent in St. Mary’s Hall, Durham street, on Thursday evening by a large number of parishioners and friends, when a social was held to bid farewell to the Rev. F. V. Fisher and Mrs Fisher and family prior to their departure for Christchurch. The first portion of the programme was occupied with competitions and musical items, the performers' being Miss H. Birt (piano solo), Mrs Tombs (song), Messrs Haig and Butler (duet), Signora Stella (monologue), Mrs Brickell (song), and Miss J. Holmes (song). The stage was tastefully decorated. Mr Harbour, who was in the chair, introduced the various speakers, which included Bishop Fitchett, Dean Cruickshank, Rev. Mr Watson (Presbyterian), Rev. Mr Williams (Methodist), and Mr Miriams, all of whom spoke in glowing terms of Mr Fisher’s ' untiring services to the church, and while regretting his departure wished him every success in the future. Mr A. Holderness (churchwarden), on behalf of the parishioners, presented Mr and Mrs Fisher with a wireless set and fireside chair. Mrs Greenall, on behalf of the Ladies’ Guild and G.F.S., made Mrs Fisher a present of a worked supper cloth. She was also presented with a bouquet by the oldest lady member of the church, Mrs Rustou. Mr Fisher, in returning thanks, spoke of his many happy connections with the parish for nearly eight years. The evening concluded with two songs by Signor Stella. On .Monday last Mr and Mrs Fisher and family were the guests of the young people of the parish, when the presentation of a leather compendium and illuminated address was made.
