NEW WORLD CONFERENCE
ECONOMIC GO-OPERATION AND MUTUAL UNDERSTANDING GERMANY WILLING TO PARTICIPATE Press Association—By Telegraph—Copyright BERLIN, April 19. Received April 20, at 11.5 a.m.) Herr Hitler had a two hours’ secret talk with Mr G. Lansbury, M.P., after which Sir Lansbury stated that Herr Hitler had said that Germany was willing to participate in a conference to consider economic co-operation and mutual understanding if President Roosevelt or the head of another great country would take the initiative. This statement was agreed upon between Herr Hitler and Mr Lansbury after a discussion on the entire international situation. Mr Lansbury submitted to Herr Hitler a memorandum proposing a new world conference, and told him the purport of his talks with President Roosevelt, M. Blum, M. Van Zeeland, and the Scandinavian Prime Minister, none of whom rejected the proposition. “ I got what I wanted from Herr Hitler,” said Mr Lansbury—“namely, that Germany is willing to enter into such a conference with a good heart. I was impressed by the fact that Herr Hitler knows what he is talking about. The question of Russian participation was not raised.”
