INFANTILE PARALYSIS

CENTRAL OTAGO CASE During the 48 hours ended this morning the Department of Health has received one notification of a case of infantile paralysis from Central Otago. This is of a boy, aged six years, who resides at Waipiata, and has been admitted to the Ranfurly Hospital. He is not paralysed.

SIX SUSPECTS [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 11. Three positive and three doubtful cases of infantile paralysis have been admitted to the Wellington Public Hospital during the week-end. The positive cases are a girl of 10 from Miramar, a girl of eight from the city, and a girl of four and a-half, also from the city. Only one of the girls is paralysed, and she is not severely affected. The doubtful cases are a girl of six from Newtown, a girl of nine from Berhampore, and a boy of eight from the city. The last-named is considered likely to become positive. On the advice of the health authorities, the Wellington Education Board has decided to close the Tawa Flat School till further notice. There has heen mild sickness in the district, but only one suspect, who was admitted to hospital some days ago.

Another infantile paralysis case wa« reported at Gisborne to-day, that of a 10-year-old boy residing in the town, a brother of the six-year-old girl removed to hospital last week. The boy is not paralysed. SEVEN WAIKATO CASES [Per United Press Association.] HAMILTON, April 12. A boy of - 10 years from Te Poi wa« admitted to the hospital yesterday. He makes the seventh case of infantile paralysis reported in the Waikato last week. WELLINGTON SCHOOLS CLOSING [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, April 12. Owing to the incidence of infantile paralysis all the primary schools in Wellington are being closed from tomorrow.
