SWERVE AND CAPSIZE. Four occupants of a baby car whicE turned upside down on the Hutt road on Sunday evening escaped without serious injury. The road was littered with glass, but the only injury was a few minor cuts suffered by the driver,Michael Henry Fitzgibbon, of Wellington. There were three women passengers. The accident, which happened at the height of the citywards rush, is attributed to defective steering gear locking and causing the car to swerv* and capsize.—Press Association. DROWNED IN CAR. A Hokitika message states that a fatal accident happened late on Saturday night six miles from Waiho, a car with, six passengers, driven by Parker, running off the road at Oemoeroa Hill and overturning into the floded creek. lan Aubrey M'Lisky (36), a married man with two children, a cook to the Public Works Department, was drowned. TWO LIVES LOST. A Gisborne Association message states that two persons lost their lives as the result of motor accidents during the week-end. A car driven by Bart. Lloyd O’Brien (50) left the road at a bend approaching a bridge, went over the bank, overturned, and pinned O’Brien beneath it, killing him instantly. Mrs O’Brien, the only other occupant, is in hospital suffering from shock and bruises. ......

Porter, of North Auckland, who was crossing the road at Waerengaahika when struck by a car driven by A. Sandlant. In swerving in the attempt to avoid Miss Porter, Sandland’s car ran into the ditch and collided with a telegraph pole, which was broken by the impact. Sandlant and the two passengers were bruised and shaken, but were not seriously injured..
