WEATHER FORECAST
MAINLY FINE, SCATTERED SHOWERS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the Southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Winton, Invercargill, Bivert ton, Orepuki, Bluff, Halfmoon Bay:—• An anti-cyclone now covers the Tasman Sea and is moving on to the Dominion. Forecast: Moderate to strong south-westerly winds, decreasing, andveering to westerlies in southern portions. Weather mainly fine, but a. few, isolated local showers probable. Seaa rather rough, but moderating. Temperatures cool, but rising. COLD STILL PREVALENT. A strong, gusty south-westerly wind assisted considerably this morning in keeping the temperatures to the low level general over the past few days* The readings until 12.30 p.m. yesterdaw were exceptionally low for this time of the year (49deg and 42.2 deg respectively), and those for the same period tp-day, although shewing a rise, arc still below normal for this period. _ This morning _ the maximum and minimum registrations were 55.9 deg and 52.5 deg, ■while for 24 hours on Thursday, 60deg and 45deg was indicated by the thermo/ meter. Barometric pressure had a tendency to fall slightly at 29.8 in at noon, and indications _at this time were for unsettled conditions this afternoon. Rainfall since 9 o’clock yesterday morning was .2in.
