RAW TOBACCO
MINIMUM PRICE RECOMMENDED £Pkb XJkitbd Press Association.] CHRISTCHURCH, July 4. The question, of the fixation of A minimum price for raw tobacco was an item of major importance considered by the Tobacco Board at a recent meeting, and it decided to recommend to the Government that a minimum price be fixed for all leaf purchased by manufacturers during the season ending March 31, 1937. The point was raised in regard to the applicability of the levy of. Jd per lb on raw tobacco sold by growers, to leaf held over from .the 1934-35 season. In accordance with the provisions of the Tobacco Growing Industry 'Act, 1935, the levy is applicable to all raw; tobacco sold. A further question also arose as to whether or not the levy should apply to raw tobacco exported from New Zealand. ■ ■ The board decided that all tobacco leaf, whether for manufacture in,New; Zealand or for export, should be subject to the levy.
