WEATHER FORECAST
MILDER DAY TEHPEMTBKS The following weather forecast was issued at noon by the Meteorological Office, Wellington, covering the southern districts—Dunedin, Port Chalmers, Tapanui, Wjnton, Invercargill, Riverton, Orepuki, Bluff, Half moon Bay:—* A moderate anti-cyclone is now passing to the north, but a freeh depression is developing in the Western Tasman Sea. Forecast: Moderate but later increasing west to north-west winds; weather for the most part fair with a cold night, but milder day temperatures; some showers or intermittent rain probable, however, in southern areas; seas rather rough to rough. VERY MILD DAY. Following the cold atmospheric conditions of the preceding week, the morning broke surprisingly mild and fine. The sky was slightly overcast, but the sun penetrated early to make the morning one of the most pleasant for some time. _ The absence of the customary cold winds was also an advantage. The indications at noon b'-day were for a mild and sunny afternoon, and a chilly but fine evening. Temperatures yesterday were 45.8 deg maximum, and 36.8 deg minimum. Corresponding readings at 12.15 p.m. to-day were 53.5 deg and 44deg. At noon th» barometer registered 29.65ih, remaining steady. There was no frost last night, and no rainfall. The wind yesterday was a light north-westerly, and to-day the direction was the same, but the intensity much less.
