(Contributed by the Association for Country Education.) BAKED PEARS AND GINGER SAUCE Pears baked in the usual way are excellent for breakfast of_ for a sweet, and are ever so easily prepared. Just peel, halve, and remove the core with a spoon, place in a baking dish,' and bake. To roll them in buttered crumbs, or . cover with 'crumbs, is good too. For extra flavour a sauce may be served, and ginger sauce is excellent. Brown sugar, one cup. Water, one and a-half cups. Butter, one tablespoon. Preserved ginger, loz. Golden Syrup, one and a-half tablespoons. Cornflour, two tablespoons. Ground ginger, three-quarters of a teaspoon. Method: Mix the sugar, cornflour, ground ginger together. Add the water (boiling) and syrup. Boil five minutes, stirring constantly. Add chopped ginger and butter and serve.
