LEAP YEAR FAIR
KARiTANE-HARRIS HOSPITAL The fair organised by the nurses of the Karitane-Harris Hospital, which was held on Saturday afternoon, proved very successful, a large number of people visiting the hospital and patronising the various stalls, which had been set up both inside and outside the building. The support of a. number of people who had the interest of the hospital and nurses at heart had made possible the stocking of the stalls with a wide variety of excellent articles which found a ready sale. The competitions organised for the occasion were also liberally supported by the visitors, and as the result of the effort the highlv satisfactory sum of £ll4, which will be devoted to the construction of a lawn tennis court, was secured. The fair was opened by the president of the Plunket Society (Lady Sidey), who' pointed out that outdoor exercise was necessary for the mental and physical health of the nurses, and said that the people's sympathy with their aim to provide a tennis court for themselves had been demonstrated in a practical manner by their gifts and attendance. Lady Sidey also extended a special welcome to the mothers and infants, after which she was presented with a bouquet, by little Patricia Murray. The various stalls were as follow: — Garden, Sister Carter; cake stall, Sister Woodhead; children's and kitchen articles; Sister M'lndoe; afternoon ten and ice cream stall, Sister Girvan ; and children'? amusements, Sister Gibbs.
