LADY BOWLERS
ANNUAL TOURNAMENT CONCLUDED FINALS OF RINKS AND PAIRS With the playing of the final games of both the pairs and the rinks at Logan Bark on Saturday afternoon, the annual tournament of the Otago Radies’ Bowling Association was successfully concluded. The pairs game was won by Mrs Austin and Miss Mee, of the St. Clair Club, these two repeating their success of last year. In the rinks Dunedin defeated St. Kilda after a very close game. The singles match was played earlier in the week and was won by Mrs Beveridge, of the Caversham Club. Results:— RINKS FINAL. Mesdames Williams, Borteous, Abbott, and Easton (Dunedin) 21, Mesdames Higginson, Leeden, Lister, and Adess (St. Kilda) 20. After the completion of the sixth head the St. Kilda rink was leading, 6-4, and with a four on the seventh and a single on the eighth had 11-4 in its favour. Some very fine combined play by the Dunedin players in the next five ends gave them three threes and two singles. This run of success now showed the score 15-11 in Dunedin’s favour. Not to be denied, St. Kilda in the following four heads scored two ones, a two, and a three, bringing the score in St. Kilda’s favour, 18-15. Dunedin then got a two, and St. Kilda followed with a single to lead, 19-17, with two heads to go. The twentieth produced a four to Dunedin, including two beautifully drawn shots bv Mrs Easton. Dunedin was now two up with a head to go, and this proved to be a thrilling one, the result being in the balance until the last bowl was played. St. Kilda was lying three when the skips changed over, Mrs Adess putting in a position shot. Mrs Easton drew within 18in of the jack on' a long head, but still left Dunedip three down, and Mrs Adess, appearing to be satisfied with the position, kept off the head. Mrs Easton with her last bowl, however, drew a beautiful second shot, and though one down on the head left Dunedin one up and game. It was a fine finish to a very fine game. PAIRS FINAL, Mrs Austin and Miss Mee (St. Clair) 24, Mesdames Forster and M'Connell (Caversham) 8. After the twelfth head the score was 14-7 in favour of St. Clair, who had obtained a drawn rive in the second head. The St. Clair pair were playing very fine bowls and appeared to be much superior to the opposition. The score after the eighteenth bead had been, played showed 24-8 in favour of St. Clair, and the remaining heads were not played. Mrs Austin and Miss Mee are a very strong combination, the leading of the former player providing a very fine exhibition. COMING FIXTURES. A women’s tournament starts to-mor-row in Timaru, and about 30 of the Dunedin Association players will make the trip. Pairs and rinks only will be played. On Wednesday the annual mterprovincial match Otago v. Southland will be played at Invercargill. The number of rinks to compete has not yet been definitely decided.
