A POLICE RAID
CHINESE FINED £322 [Per United Press Association.] . CHRISTCHURCH, January 27. Following a police raid on premises in Ferry road on Saturday two Chinese appeared in court on charges connected with opium smoking, and a third was charged with being unlaw-fully-on the premises. Fines totalling £322 were imposed by the magistrate. Mr Levvey. Ah Yee was charged with (l)r that being the occupier of the premises he permitted them to be used for the smoking of prepared opium; (2) that he was found in possession of prepared opium; (3) that he was found in the possession of utensils used for the purpose of smoking prepared opium. He was fined £2OO on the first charge, and £SO on each of the others. It was stated that he had been fined £IOO four years ago. On three charges Yee See was fined a total of £2O. For being found on the premises Ah Low was fined £2.
