KNIFE CUT ON FINGER. Whilst cutting vegetables at her home at 636 Main road, North-east Valley yesterday Lorraine Hall, nine years of age, received a severe cut on the index finger of her right hand, and was admitted to the hospital at 5.5 p.m. RETIRED RAILWAY INSPECTOR’S DEATH. Mr David Ferguson Nelson, a retired railway inspector of permanent ways, was found hanging in the shed at his home this morning. He had been suffering from a nervous breakdown. He accompanied Mr Casey, then chief engineer, to Napier at the time of the earthquake, and was largely responsible for the restoration of the rail services, but the strain involved seriously impaired liis health.—Christchurch Press Association;
