MOZART CONCERT TO-NIGHT
THE CHORAL SOCIETY What promises to be one of the most favourably received and Highly enjoyed concerts in the history of Dunedin musical entertainment will be preserited by the Dunedin Choral Soicety in the main Town Hall to-night. The programme, which is undoubtedly one_ of the most ambitious yet attempted, is not “ highbrow,” but of a standard that is sure to find favour with local audiences, that are noted for discrimination. The concert will be an ” all-Mozart ” entertainment with Mr Alfred Walmsley conducting. Mozart music Has been selected by the Choral Society because of its present-day popularity, due to the Soothing effect of the bright, cloudless sunlight of Mozart music. The fact that the ‘ Requiem Mass ’ will be given is in itself an inducement to musiclovers to attend and enjoy the opportunity of hearing this wonderful work portrayed in English. In the past the Dunedin Choral Society has presented many excellent concerts, but it is more than probable that to-night’s, presentation will set a new standard.
The following translation gives a very clear idea of how much Mozart was appreciated:—“ 0 Mozart,, the divine Mozart, how little they comprehend who do not adore thee—thy. constant truth, thy perfect beauty, thine inexhaustible charm, always deep yet clear, the complete humanity and yet the simplicity of the child. Thou hast felt all and expressed all in a musical language that has never been and never will be surpassed.”
