UNEMPLOYED WORKERS’ MOVEMENT.

TO THE EDITOR. Sir, —I attended a meeting of the Unemployed Workers’ Movement last Tuesday evening as an interested person. Previous to my attendance I was of the opinion that the movement was fully representative of all the relief workers of this city. My opinion proved false, and I found that myself and others had been labouring under a delusion, for approximately thirty relief workers were present, dominated by a certain extreme element. After the business had been supposedly transacted. to my surprise a member of the executive, who in previous troubles had shown that he has the courage of bis convictions and is now adverse to some of tbe methods used by’ this organisation, was to be tried for divulging a secret from a previous executive meeting. Secrets in any working-class movement, unless of a very important nature and at a critical time, are against the principles of such an organisation, which is controlled by rank and file, who have every right to know ail business. lam sure it is timo that the workers of this town woke up to certain facts, and although I am very much in favour of the present strike and improving our conditions, after attending this meeting 1 am firmly. convinced that unless the workers realise their own power of voting and form a non-party organisation, with right men at the head of it, then as far as bettering themselves and those dependent on them is concerned .they will be doomed to failure.—l am, etc,, Relief Worker. February 6.
