COLLEGE POLICEMEN

Interesting details about the new Metropolitan Police College at Hendon. N.W., have been disclosed officially (says the ‘ Daily Mail ’). All those who enter the college will have the rank of junior station inspector. Those without previous police experience will, on passing out of the college, serve for a period as a constable aftd it sergeant in uniform. No officer, not previously in the force will be allowed to marry tor four years after Joining the college. All officers at the college must provide themselves with a dinner jacket suit, four dress shirts, and patent shoes. It is made known in the official booklet, ‘ Conditions of Entry and Service/ that the men maj< ! be chosen; by three methods. They may be selected from serving members of the Metropolitan Police Force; from men with a certain standard of education, such as a university degree, without examination; or by competitive examination The first course will open in the late spring or early summer of 1934, and entry will be limited to twenty members' of the force and twelve men chosen by competitive examinatipil. The subjects in which ‘ instruction will be given include motor car driving, wireless communication, use of firearms, elementary riding and horsemanship, deportment, and ju-jitsu. ■' ■ The pay will be at the rate of £l7O a year while at the college and £225 while undergoing practical training. 1 (flie college candidates must be between twenty and twenty-six, and the minimum height is sft Bin.
