NEXT OLYMPIC GAMES
INVITATION FROM GERMANY [Per United Press Association.] WELLINGTON, January 31. Official invitations printed in German on art paper to send teams to compete at the seventh Olympic Games in Berlin from August 1 to August 10, 1936, and at the fourth Olympic Winter Games at Garmisch, Partenkirchen, from February 6 to February 16 of the same year, have been received by Mr H. APCormick, secretary of the New Zealand Olympic and British Empire Games Association. New Zealand lias never sent representatives to the Winter Games, so that so far as New Zealand is concerned interest lies in the Olympic Games. Mr AFConnick has also received some interesting information with respect to the preparations in hand and the plans for the meeting, and it is mentioned incidentally that the festival has the backing of Herr Hitler. It is stated that Herr Hitler has approved of plans for the reconstruction of the Berlin Stadium and the surrounding area so as to convert it into “ the most extensive sports park in the world.” The area mentioned is 285 acres; The stadium is to be enlarged to accommodate 100,000 people. The swimming pool will be 50 metres long, and the cycling track 333 1-3 metres long. The. lawn tennis stadium will accommodate 10,000 spectators. The whole German nation hopes, it is stated, that the peoples of the world will accept the invitations and send strong teams, thus helping to make the festival of 1936 a festival of peace and world-wide Olympic cultural communion.
