PURCHASE OF LAND

4,0001 ACRES IN SUFFOLK LONDON, October 3. One of the most important transactions in English landed property this year has. been completed this week. Trinity College, Cambridge, has purchased nearly 4,000 acres six miles from Ipswich. It is the. Trimley and Walton portion of Mr Pretyman’s Orwell Park estate. Orwell Park and the rest of Mr Pretyman’s property are not in any way affected. The sale includes seventeen farms, many small holdings, and houses and cottages in the parishes of Walton, Trimley St. Mary, Kirton, and Trimley St. Martin. The rent roll is almost £5,000 a year, and the land, farmed by substantial tenants, ranks among the best in Suffolk, being in the fertile area enclosed by the Deben on the north-east and the Orwell on the south-west. The purchase is as an investment, and there is no intention to cut up the estate.
