WOMEN ARCHITECTS

NEEDED FEMININE TOUGH PROVIDED Women, if trained in •accordance with their natural aptitudes rather than a masculine educational programme, can bo fitted to give a_ needed feminine touch to modem architecture and register wider successes in that field than they do at present, according to Mr Raymond F. Bossangc, dean of the Now York University College of Fine Arts.

The number of women who are now practising architects in the United States is probably smaller proportionately than in any other profession, Mr Bossange said, adding that ho had completed plans for a now course in domestic architecture especially adapted for women. “ It is perfectly evident,” lie continued, “that women, because of their good taste, imagination, ingenuity, ami intimate knowledge of homo life, certainly have something to contribute to architecture. 1 am convinced that women properly trained could design and execute many types of small buildings very well, and very few women are doing this at the present time.” Women entering existing architectural classes have been forced to adapt themselves to masculine programmes of instruction because there never lias boon a course adapted to their special needs, lie said.
