;■ DEATH SCARE " TO HUNDREDS VANCOUVER, April 6. Grave fear has gripped hundreds of persons that they are in danger of a slow death, as a result of the fatal poisoning of the millionaire steel manufacturer, Eben Byers, at Philadelphia. The cause of death in Byers’s case was an accumulation of radium salt on his bones, duo to his taking three bottles of “ radium water” a day. It was manufactured by charging water with radium gas, and cost £1 a bottle. Byers was one time amateur golf champion, with an international reputation. He was hot suffering from any ailment, but took the medicine as a tonic. The deposit of the salt set up an intense suffering, and he died a slow death. Federal food and drug officials have issued warnings to the nubile to retrain from taking the medicine.
