SCOTTISH SOCIETY
MONTHLY MEETING The monthly meeting of the Scottish Society of Dunedin was held in Lake’s Restaurant on Saturday evening, and in tho absence of the president (Mr George Munro) the vice-president (Mir AV. A. Steele) took tho chair. The chairman reminded those present that tins day was the anniversary of Culloden. Mr D. Minnock addressed the mooting on tho subject of tho mayor’s “Rack to Dunedin AVcck,” and, being the Scottish Society’s representative on tiio executive, asked and was assured of tho wholehearted support of this society. Jt was intimated that Messrs Thomson’s Ltd. had placed at tho disposal of the Orkney and Shetland Socicty the Shetland ponies, and had also given their lorries for the use of tho combined societies. Thanks wcro_ tendered Mr George for his efforts on behalf of these societies. Tho cightsomo reel was danced by tho combined juvenile dancers, and the following rendered additional items:— Mrs AV. Sproull, ‘Sweet Rothesay Ray ’; Master Flctt, Sailor’s Hornpipe; Mr Donald French, ‘Rolling Homo tao Bonnio Scotland ’; Mr J. T. Ramsay, ‘The Kiltie’s March’; Mr H. Bell, ‘Rack Cam Mac’; Miss Robb, ‘ AVo Hooso Mang tho Heather ’; Misses ]?. Steele and P. Matheson, sword dance. Mr AV. P. Smith, in addition to officiating as M.C., sang ‘ Alary of Argylo.’ Tho combined Highland dancers, twelve in_ all, gave a good exposition of the Highland Fling and a Gaelic number was sung by Airs W. Alatheson (Kaikorai) in true style. Mrs James Howio proved an efficient accompaniste, and tho dispensing of the ‘ Oatcake an’ Herring ’ was in the capable hands of Air Peter Duff and Ins band of willing lady assistants. In connection with the “ Back to Dunedin AA 7 eek,” the combined Scottish and Orkney and Shetland Scottish Societies held a meeting in the Y.M.C.A. Air Henderson, tho ncwlyelccted president of the Orkney and Shetland Society, was nominated forth o position of chairman. It was decided that each of the representatives present should recommend their bodies to throw their whole weight into tlve movement and make an endeavour to portray Scotland at its best.
